To My Hometown

To My Hometown

You will always hold a special place in my heart. As I sit on my porch, I look down the street and see people who I know would be there for me if I needed them, I think to myself that I am so lucky to still live here.

My husband and I can walk our dogs for an hour but end up spending half that time chatting with someone we know who lives around the corner. We can even see a random stranger and give a wave, that’s just what we do here. We don’t have to make an effort to fit in, which gives us an odd piece of mind.

We can walk down streets and spout silly memories we had here as children. Whether it was a friend getting pooped on by a bird, or a crazy mudslide we had in a neighbors backyard. We reminisce on what used to be in what spot – the corner store turned brand new homes, the schoolyard turned giant dirt pile (soon to be a new school), and so much more.

You will always hold a special place in my heart because you helped mold me into who I am today. You certainly have your moments, but so do we. Whether we stay here forever, move and come back, or just plain old leave this place, it will always be home sweet home.

Disclaimer* No one’s experience is the same. It’s okay if you leave, and it’s okay if you stay. Home is not always where you are from, or where you grew up, but instead where you feel secure and comfortable – a place I hope all people find.

With love,

Layla
