Volunteering at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden

I have lived in Cincinnati my entire life and for as long as I can remember, my family and I went to the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. When I walk into the zoo I immediately think of goldfish crackers (no I am not joking) because it was my snack of choice to be thrown in the wagon. My mother also remembers going to CZBG as a child. Once she had children, her mother gifted her and my father with family passes to the zoo… and it is all history from there.

Gladys was always our favorite, she was a little baby holding on to a gorilla-like fur vest then. Now she is a rambunctious three year old and instead of just watching her play, my mother and I now have the opportunity to talk about her and other animals to CZBG guests.

The zoo has always brought me joy. Not only by viewing animals but by listening to the stories of conservation and education that is being done by people at CZBG. I truly feel special when I reach that peak in the conversation with a guest; we go beyond the animals and talk about what we can do as a community to help save the species. The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden is about so much more than showing cool animals. It is truly a place where they try to include education in every conversation, and conservation in every action. I feel honored to be able to volunteer there, spread that message, and more importantly, do so with my mother! 🙂

The gorillas were always my favorite. 🙂
